Financial Modelling Courses
Expert & Certified Financial Modelling courses for best-in-class modelling
Our training courses maximise modelling capability for individuals and organisations. F1F9 instructors with extensive real-world experience run intensive courses in major cities including London and Dubai.
You can arrange tailored in-house training for your business or attend one of our open courses. Courses are also available live online for interactive, discussion-based training
wherever you are in the world.
Our courses are accredited for Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
F1F9's Approach To Your Learning
Before the course
Take advantage of our free video-based resources and model downloads to prepare yourself for a transformation once the formal learning begins. The more you understand about the approach we take, the greater the potential benefit to your productivity as a financial modeller.
During the course
Learn from our expert instructors in a hands-on, interactive, intensive and immersive learning environment. You will design and construct your own model, from a skeleton start, building up a set of skills as you complete the course material. Our aim is to make you fluent, rather than speedy. A fluent modeller can build a model while engaging in other activities (such as having a conversation). Their muscle memory is that good.
After the course
Continue your learning by putting your skills into practice. We make available additional case studies (with starting and solution models) as well as pre-recorded video-based versions of our courses. Access this material as many times as you wish: there is no expiry date. Our team of financial modelling experts would be happy to review the case studies that you complete.
How Our Courses Are Delivered
Classroom
Benefit from the immediacy of face-to-face learning. Our expert instructors will be focused on your learning and you will enjoy the support of teaching assistants and your fellow course participants. Build your skills by following what the lead instructor is doing and ask as many questions as you like. The experience is intensive, exhausting and very rewarding.
Live Online
Spread over a longer period than classroom training, you will learn through formal live sessions with breaks in between. We have the flexibility to run courses over non-consecutive dates and we record sessions so that you may revisit them as many times as you wish. We encourage engagement between instructor and participant with questions welcomed throughout the course.
Pre-Recorded
For self-paced learning, choose our pre-recorded video-based courses. Work at your own speed with videos to watch, models to download and additional case studies to complete. Submit your work to our team of financial modelling experts and raise questions as you go.
Our Courses
What will I learn?
You will learn what it means to be a productive financial modeller and how this is different from being an Excel expert. Our courses follow the same best practice principles and the FAST Standard regardless of whether they are entry-level or advanced. Furthermore, the techniques that you learn on entry-level courses continue to be applied even when what being modelled is highly complex.
You will learn that acquiring clarity on how to model a particular cost (for example) improves your understanding of its calculation, how it might be funded and how it is accounted for. Likewise with sector knowledge: you will understand the difference between what is being modelled (“conceptual modelling”) and how it is being modelled (“spreadsheet engineering”). You will also understand the bridge that exists between conceptual modelling and spreadsheet solutions.
Most important, you will learn that it is possible to build models that others find easy-to-read and easy-to-navigate even where the case study is highly complex. Keeping a high complex model transparent is a great skill – and one well worth acquiring.
Who Should Attend?
We welcome course participants from a wide range of backgrounds and sectors, including accountants, bankers, engineers and lawyers. Some experience of financial modelling – even if self-taught – is often an advantage since it is then possible to compare current practice against best practice. But we also work with people that have no financial modelling experience (but know that they need it to excel in the role) and highly experienced financial modellers. Regardless of experience, the quality and productivity of modelling will improve through the introduction of a standardised approach to model design and construction.
Best Practice Financial Modelling
Working through a business acquisition case study and building up core skills, you will forecast the 3 primary financial statements and determine an equity valuation. You will also cover debt financing, inflation, depreciation and taxation.

Client Reviews
S. C. Invest NL
I liked the format and the fact that you are building up the model. i think the course was most helpful when you needed to think for yourself and build a part – perhaps more time spent doing this would have been good.
S. V.EBRD
Thanks a lot for the course, it was very useful and well structured. The instructor explained it awesome!
Jord W.

Maryam Ahmed Network Rail
Great course- has given me a solid foundation to understand and build basic models within my role. Pacing is good and found the tutor’s instructions to be very straighforward to follow. Highly informative and will definitely consider coming back for the next level once I have put some of the skills learnt on this course into practice. Thank you
Charles Serinet SUEZ
Very useful to understand the impact of changes in revenue, gearing, DSCR on CFADS, Average DSCR, Div and Equity IRR. Very interesting as well to build step by step the balance sheet, P&L and CF to understand the connections between each statements. The track and resources tabs are really useful too.
Michael Leonhart KPN
The structure of the course was good and gave a good insight in how to build the consistent model. Sometimes, it was more about doing rather than really understanding why, so maybe a little more time spend on that topic would be nice. In general I learned a lot about the various shortcuts an modelling in general.
Mthandeni Vilakazi, AIIM
Specifically found the shortcuts and best-practice principles on model construction particularly helpful in improving productivity and efficiency. I also appreciated the use of a tracking sheet, as well as the time taken to explore alternative functions and approaches to understand their limitations.
Agie Turowska, Network Rail
The practical tools were great and will be very handy to pass on and help my colleagues too. The format was very good and easy to follow. I liked that we had two instructors helping when anyone got stuck while the rest were able to carry on.

Andrew was comprehensive, friendly and attentive. He managed the group very well, catered to all learning speeds, and ensured everyone’s questions were answered without disrupting the flow of the course.
Mthandeni Vilakazi, AIIM
The shortcuts and model construction best practices were particularly helpful in improving my productivity and efficiency. Andrew and Judith were phenomenal, the pace of teaching was excellent and very accommodating.

Training FAQs
Why don't F1F9's keyboard shortcut macros open when I double click on the file?
Why don't F1F9's keyboard shortcut macros open when I double click on the file?
The file is opening but it is designed to open in a hidden state. That’s so that the file doesn’t get in the way while you are working on a model for real.
To unhide the open file, try Alt, W, U and you’ll see the documentation (as well as the coding for the shortcuts in the Visual Basic environment). To hide the open file, its Alt, W, H.
Why don't the keyboard shortcuts work even once I've confirmed the file is open?
Why don't the keyboard shortcuts work even once I've confirmed the file is open?
The most likely reason is that something is blocking the macros from running. Unhide the file and confirm that all “Enable macros” requests have been clicked.
Follow our blog: https://www.f1f9.com/blog/keyboard-shortcuts/ to have the macros open automatically when you open Excel. This approach works well with particularly sensitive corporate firewalls.
Why do some of the keyboard shortcuts work and others don't?
Why do some of the keyboard shortcuts work and others don't?
This is normally to do with other add-ins that you may have running in Excel e.g. Bloomberg or Arixcel.
Either disable the add-ins while you are modelling or change our coding so that you use a different shortcut key. Our coding is open to all so you make whatever amendments you deem appropriate.
